Dinner @ Zi Yean Restaurant

We were celebrating my partner's father's birthday, and once again, we patronised this Chinese restaurant that we often go: Zi Yean Restaurant. Taking a stroll up the gentle slope from Red Hill MRT, you will find the restuarant tucked away in the corner of a old HDB flat, brightly lit by a yellow signboard just on top of it. With its retro theme, complete with old style furniture, it serves great dishes, like the chicken with preserved vegetables and home made tofu. And on the day we were there, the shark fin soup was on offer, and each of us get to taste the great tasting soup, boiled with mushroom and chicken. Its light and refreshing, you should try it!

botak jones @ clementi

Botak Brown Paper Package !

A colleague of mine had been recommending this place for quite some time but I kept putting it off. Finally, we acted on it, and went for some "damn good food at a damn good price".

It was lunch at Botak Jones, a stall selling American food right in the middle of the sleepy neighbourhood of Clementi. Friendly staff took down our orders with a smile, and food was served shortly (Note: we were 3rd in the queue, thus the fast serving. We have heard stories of having to wait some half to one hour for food to be served if you are there during peak hours). For a group of 6, we ordered: 2 regular fish and chips, 1 large one, 1 Cajun chicken, 1 Bratwurst sausage, 1 tuna salad and 6 chicken wings. And i tell you: the portions were humongous! - tasty fries stacked like a mountain, whole pile of tuna with lots of greens, big servings of delicious fried fillet, big chicken wings etc. All these for $50.50 bucks. Value for money. No wonder the shop's tagline is "damn good price".
